SEC Mini-Conference on Artificial Intelligence in the Curriculum

Date: April 8 – 1:00-4:00 p.m. ET (1:00-4:00 p.m. Eastern)

Location: Virtual (Zoom)

Invitees: All interested SEC faculty members

Purpose: Artificial Intelligence is becoming an important tool in every discipline. This workshop will provide faculty with (1) an introduction to the new SEC AI Consortium, (2) an orientation on integrating AI into any department, discipline, or major and (3) time for discussion within disciplinary breakout groups about current and future opportunities to add AI to existing curricula.

Tentative Agenda:

1:00 – 1:15 p.m. Welcome and introduction to SEC AI Consortium and this conference

1:15 – 1:45 p.m. Ned Finkle (NVIDIA Vice President of External Affairs): The impact of AI across all fields in science, society, and higher education’s role in addressing the nation’s AI workforce needs

1:45 – 2:15 p.m. Invited Speakers from the SEC AI Committee on Curriculum and Academics

  1. Computer Programming is not an impediment to AI education (Dr. Diego Alvarado, University of Florida)
  2. Interdisciplinary BS in Data Science degree (Dr. Mimmo Parisi, Mississippi State University)
  3. AI Education: Filling in Curricular Gaps (Dr. Dania Bilal, University of Tennessee).
