Bring AI to Your Data Securely

NaviGator gives students, faculty, and staff the ability to safely try a range of generative AI models, powering your academic, research, and industry practices.

UF’s NaviGator Chat is the first comprehensive, self-service AI platform in U.S. higher education. Like ChatGPT, NaviGator is an artificial intelligence chatbot that uses machine learning to process and analyze data, generating content for you. Unlike ChatGPT, NaviGator AI Chat was custom-built to allow UF faculty, students, and staff to interact with their data in private, using your choice of multiple applications.

How Does NaviGator Work?

NaviGator gives you a collection of large language models (LLM). An LMM is an advanced AI system designed to process and generate human-like text. LLM’s are “trained” on enormous datasets and use deep learning techniques to recognize patterns in language.

NaviGator AI currently hosts several applications for your use, including NVIDIA Inference Microservices (NIMs) for Meta’s Llama Mistral, and ESMFold protein; OpenAI’s GPT and DALL-E; Google’s Gemini; Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion; and Anthropic’s Claude.

Is NaviGator Safe?

NaviGator is programmed with human values and goals to ensure responses are reliable, safe, and legal. Everything you input stays within UF or approved vendor servers and every document is permanently removed when you delete it.

NaviGator Chat is approved for open data only. Users should only input public information such as press releases, course catalogues, published research, job postings, etc. Sensitive and restricted information is not allowed unless you have received explicit approval. This policy helps prevent information from being compromised.

Is NaviGator Accurate?

AI models provide better results when the user has subject area knowledge. Though AI does produce more results faster, it can make mistakes. Always check outputs generated by AI. You, the user, are responsible for any generated content you choose to use.
