Natalia Sletova

Instructional Assistant Professor of Russian, CLAS

Natalia Sletova is a Permanent Lecturer of Russian and Study Abroad Program Director in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Florida. She holds a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition from The Ohio State University and researches L2 oral performance, pre-task planning, and AI-mediated language learning.

At UF, Natalia has led one of the department's first AI-integrated language courses, designing and launching a Speakology-based AI conversation partner program in RUS 1131 that gives beginning Russian students structured weekly speaking practice with automated corrective feedback. She prepared the course-approval materials that earned RUS 1131 its Enable-AI designation and is now working to extend that designation to RUS 3240. Last semester, she collected data from this program and is currently writing a paper examining learners' perceptions of and emotional engagement with the AI conversation partner.

Natalia's scholarship has appeared in journals including Foreign Language Annals, The Language Learning Journal, and the International Review of Applied Linguistics, and she has presented her research at AAAL, AATSEEL, and FFLA. She also directs UF's study abroad program in Tbilisi, Georgia, and serves on her department's Awards and Outreach Committees. As a Faculty Fellow, she looks forward to sharing what she has learned about integrating AI thoughtfully and effectively into language teaching.
